LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team takes
to the court for an exhibition game at
Coleman Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 7 against
the University of Alabama. Tip-off is
scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The game will be
broadcasted on WZNJ 106.5-FM.
UWA, which
made the Gulf South Conference Tournament
last season, returns four letterwinners to
the 2008-09 team. Valerie Harris, a Lake,
Miss.-native, returns as the team’s leading
scorer and rebounder, averaging 10 points
and 4.4 rebounds per game. Returners joining
Harris are seniors Danielle Baldwin and
Omeshia Frost along with junior Jenni
Thomley.
UWA Head
Coach Amanda Marks added six new faces
during the offseason, including GSC top
newcomers Keiara Middleton (Birmingham,
Ala.) and Erin Courington (Locust Fork,
Ala.).
The Tigers
were tabbed sixth in the GSC East Division,
by the conference’s head coaches, receiving
15 points in the poll, two votes for third
place, three for fifth and one for sixth in
the poll.
West
Alabama opens the 27-game, regular season on
Saturday, Nov. 15 at Auburn Montgomery.
Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. The Tigers host
pre-season #9 Delta State in their home
opener on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
