LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama women’s basketball team opens
the season on Saturday, Nov. 15, as the
Tigers travel to Auburn Montgomery to face
the Lady Senators in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
UWA, which
made the Gulf South Conference Tournament
last season, returns four letterwinners this
season, led by Valerie Harris, who returns
as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder,
averaging 10 points and 4.4 rebounds per
game. Harris is joined by fellow seniors
Danielle Baldwin and Omeshia Frost along
with junior Jenni Thomley.
UWA Head
Coach Amanda Marks added five new faces
during the offseason, including GSC top
newcomers Keiara Middleton (Birmingham,
Ala.) and Erin Courington (Locust Fork,
Ala.).
The Tigers
were tabbed sixth in the GSC East Division,
by the conference’s head coaches, receiving
15 points in the poll, two votes for third
place, three for fifth and one for sixth in
the poll.
UWA
dropped its only exhibition game of the
preseason, falling 76-49 at the University
of Alabama. Harris and Thomley led the
charge for UWA, as the duo each posted
double figures on the night, led by Harris’
16 points. Thomley supplied 12 points with
Courington adding nine points in her first
action on the floor for the Tigers. Harris
also led the Tigers on the board with eight
rebounds.
West
Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Nov.
21, as the UWA will travel to the University
of Mobile for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
