LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama women’s basketball team opens the season on Saturday, Nov. 15, as the Tigers travel to Auburn Montgomery to face the Lady Senators in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.

UWA, which made the Gulf South Conference Tournament last season, returns four letterwinners this season, led by Valerie Harris, who returns as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 10 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Harris is joined by fellow seniors Danielle Baldwin and Omeshia Frost along with junior Jenni Thomley.

UWA Head Coach Amanda Marks added five new faces during the offseason, including GSC top newcomers Keiara Middleton (Birmingham, Ala.) and Erin Courington (Locust Fork, Ala.).

The Tigers were tabbed sixth in the GSC East Division, by the conference’s head coaches, receiving 15 points in the poll, two votes for third place, three for fifth and one for sixth in the poll.

UWA dropped its only exhibition game of the preseason, falling 76-49 at the University of Alabama. Harris and Thomley led the charge for UWA, as the duo each posted double figures on the night, led by Harris’ 16 points. Thomley supplied 12 points with Courington adding nine points in her first action on the floor for the Tigers. Harris also led the Tigers on the board with eight rebounds.

West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 21, as the UWA will travel to the University of Mobile for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
