LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The second-ranked University of West
Alabama baseball team returns to Gulf South
Conference action, as the UWA (24-4, 3-0 GSC)
hosts in-state rival Montevallo in a three-game,
weekend series this weekend. The series begins
on Friday, March 21 with a doubleheader
beginning at 4 p.m. The game will be carried on
Y-104.9-FM and athletics.uwa.edu.
Friday’s
opening contest marks the 91st
meeting between the two in-state institutions
and the first this season. UWA, which holds the
advantage in the series 56-34, claimed three of
the five meetings last season with the final
contest coming in a 4-1 victory in the Gulf
South Conference Tournament. The Red and White
claimed the weekend series last season in
Montevallo, winning two-of-three and then
falling in the midweek, non-conference contest
in Livingston before the match-up in the
conference tournament.
The Tigers,
who opened conference play with a sweep of the
University of Alabama in Huntsville, extended
its win streak to 10-games with a 7-5, 10-inning
win over #10 Delta State on Wednesday night at
Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. After leading 5-0
early in the contest, UWA placed two runs on the
board in the 10th inning for the win.
Montevallo
(19-11, 2-1 GSC) enters the contest after
suffering an 11-8 setback at #13 Columbus State
on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons opened
conference play by winning the last two games of
the series against West Florida. UM has won six
of its last 10 contests.
The series
between West Alabama and Montevallo concludes on
Saturday, March 22, with first pitch scheduled
for 1 p.m. at Tartt Field. The final game of the
series will be carried on Y-104.9-FM and
athletics.uwa.edu.
