#2 UWA Hosts Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The second-ranked University of West Alabama baseball team returns to Gulf South Conference action, as the UWA (24-4, 3-0 GSC) hosts in-state rival Montevallo in a three-game, weekend series this weekend. The series begins on Friday, March 21 with a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The game will be carried on Y-104.9-FM and athletics.uwa.edu.

Friday’s opening contest marks the 91st meeting between the two in-state institutions and the first this season. UWA, which holds the advantage in the series 56-34, claimed three of the five meetings last season with the final contest coming in a 4-1 victory in the Gulf South Conference Tournament. The Red and White claimed the weekend series last season in Montevallo, winning two-of-three and then falling in the midweek, non-conference contest in Livingston before the match-up in the conference tournament.

The Tigers, who opened conference play with a sweep of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, extended its win streak to 10-games with a 7-5, 10-inning win over #10 Delta State on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. After leading 5-0 early in the contest, UWA placed two runs on the board in the 10th inning for the win.

Montevallo (19-11, 2-1 GSC) enters the contest after suffering an 11-8 setback at #13 Columbus State on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons opened conference play by winning the last two games of the series against West Florida. UM has won six of its last 10 contests.

The series between West Alabama and Montevallo concludes on Saturday, March 22, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Tartt Field. The final game of the series will be carried on Y-104.9-FM and athletics.uwa.edu.
