UWA, which extended its win
streak to nine games, picked up its fourth sweep
of the season. The Tigers improve to 23-4 on the
season and 3-0 in the GSC. The sweep places UWA
in sole possession of first place in the GSC East
Division.
In game two, Nick Huckaby got
things started for UAH, as he singled down the
right field line to score Jordan Parker in
Chargers first trip to the plate. UAH hurler
Colby Lipham held the Tiger bats silent for
three innings until Matt Busbee doubled to left
field to score Rob Dahlberg and Tres Avans,
giving UWA a 2-1 lead in the fourth. The Red and
White added one more in the top of the ninth, as
Jeremy Finney reached on a fielding error by the
third basemen, which allowed Chris Ransburgh to
score from second.
Matt Hill (3-0) grabbed the
win, pitching six innings, allowing one run on
six hits while recording five strikeouts.
UWA struck first in the
opening outing of the doubleheader, when Nick
Wheeler doubled to left field to score Busbee in
the second inning, but UAH knotted the contest
1-1 in the fourth inning, as Kevin Herring
grounded out to Dahlberg, but pushed Luke Putnam
across the dish.
After UAH tied the contest,
the two teams played three scoreless innings
until Jake DeRoy's single up the middle,
bouncing off Charger pitcher Jacob Wray, scored
Wheeler for a 2-1 lead.
Brandon Dill (4-0) picked up
the win, throwing his complete game of the
season, while tying his season-high with six
strikeouts. The Columbus, Miss.-native pitched
eight scoreless innings.
