The
11th-ranked
University of West
Alabama baseball team
secured a three-game
sweep of Talladega
College with a 7-3
victory on Saturday
afternoon at Tartt
Field. UWA improves to
29-10 on the season.
Colter Millican (2-0)
picked up his second win
of the season with
seven, scoreless innings
pitched. Millican
scattered three hits in
the outing with six
strikeouts. Dating back
to last weekend’s start
at West Florida, the
Brighton, Tenn.-native
has pitched 12
consecutive innings
without allowing run.
Dallas Rogers gave the
Tigers the early lead in
the second inning with a
double to right field
that scored Clint Brown
and Douglas Frazier, who
each reached base after
being hit by pitch. A
Brian Simone two-run,
homerun to right center
field, in the fifth
inning, extended the Red
and White’s lead to 4-0.
UWA added two more runs
in the seventh inning.
The first of the runs
came off a Nick Wheeler
homer to center field
for a 5-0 lead. Frazier
scored the final run of
the inning, crossing the
dish on a Brown base hit
to left field.
After TC (10-32) cut the
lead in half in the
eighth plating three
runs, the Tigers picked
up an insurance run in
the bottom of the frame,
as Jeremy Finney scored
on a Rob Dahlberg
sacrifice fly to center
field for the final run
of the game.
West Alabama wraps up
its six-game homestand
with a doubleheader
against the University
of Arkansas at
Monticello on Tuesday,
Apr. 14. First pitch of
the twinbill is
scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
