LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The 10th-ranked University
of West Alabama baseball team extended its win
streak to six, as the Tigers (13-3) blasted
in-state foe Stillman 12-0 at Tartt Field on
Wednesday afternoon.
UWA jumped out
to a 5-0 lead in the first two innings play,
including a four-run, first at bat. The first
run came as Jeremy Finney scored on a double
play that erased Jake DeRoy and Clint Moody.
Todd Rea followed with a single to left field to
score Dahlberg for the first two runs. One
batter later, Nick Wheeler doubled to score Matt
Busbee and Rea in the four run inning.
Moody crossed the dish as the only run in the
second inning, scoring on a DeRoy single to left
field.
Kevin Deese
led off the three-run, fourth inning with a home
run to left center, extending the lead to 6-0.
DeRoy and Moody closed out the inning, scoring
on a Rea double to left center.
Back-to-back,
two-run innings in the seventh and eighth closed
out the scoring in the contest. In the seventh
inning, Brian Simone and Jeremy Dorrance totaled
the two runs, as Simone scored on a single by
Dallas Rogers and Dorrance crossed the plate on
an error by the shortstop. In the eighth,
Phillip Merryman and Chris Ransburgh each
reached home on bases loaded, hit batsmen.
Josh Varner
(3-0) threw five innings in the win, allowing
four hits with eight strikeouts. Cole Thornton,
Patrick Sorrells, Brian Burgess and Clint Smith
all pitched one inning in the outing. Robert
Duckworth (0-1) received the loss with four
inning of action, allowing eight runs on 10
hits.
West Alabama
returns to action on Saturday, March 1, as the
Tigers host #4 Delta State in a doubleheader.
The double dip is part of the three-game,
weekend series against the Statesmen. First
pitch Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m.
