BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
University of West
Alabama first baseman Chris Ransburgh
was named Gulf South Conference East
Division Player of the Week, as
announced by the conference office on
Tuesday afternoon.
Ransburgh claimed
his first career weekly award from the
conference following a strong week at
the dish. The Montgomery, Ala.-native
recorded a hit in each contest last week
while tallying multiple RBI in all, but
one contest. The senior belted two
homeruns and four doubles, helping the
Tigers to the GSC East Division #2 seed
in the GSC Baseball Tournament in
Millington, Tenn. Saturday, May 3
through Wednesday, May 7.
Ransburgh becomes
the sixth Tiger to receive weekly
recognition from the GSC and it marks
the eighth time a UWA baseball player
has received a weekly honor. Tres Avans,
Rob Dahlberg and Nick Wheeler have each
claimed Player of the Week laurels,
while Mike Schmitt and Brandon Dill, the
only three time winner, have received
Pitcher of the Week honors.
The
Red and White, which is currently ranked
second in the NCAA Division II South
Central Region, will face GSC West
Division #3 seed Ouachita Baptist in the
opening day of the conference tournament
at approximately 7:30 p.m.
West Alabama closes out the regular
season on Wednesday, April 30, as the
Tigers travel to Stillman College for a
doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled
for 2:00 p.m.
