INDIANAPOLIS,
Ind. – The
University of West
Alabama baseball
team dropped a spot
in the week’s
edition of the NCAA
Division II Baseball
South Region poll.
UWA (36-12), which
claimed the Gulf
South Conference
East Division title,
fell from the No. 2
spot in last week’s
poll to No. 3. The
Tigers have
tabulated a 28-11
mark in the region
after picking up
four region wins
last week, including
a sweep of West
Georgia that helped
guide the Red and
White to the top
seed in the East.
Southern Arkansas,
which is co-champion
of the GSC West
Division, maintained
their grip on the
top spot in the poll
with an overall mark
of 44-9. Barry
improved one spot to
take No. 2. Lynn is
fourth followed by
UAH, Florida
Southern, Tampa and
Valdosta State,
rounding out the top
eight spots. GSC
West top seed Delta
State is ninth with
Nova Southeastern in
10th.
Tournament champions
from the GSC, SSC
and Southern
Intercollegiate
Conference comprise
three of the eight
bids to the South
Regional, May 14-17.
The remaining
at-large slots are
awarded to the five
highest-ranked teams
in the region. The
top-rated team is
eligible to host the
four day Tournament,
providing it placed
a bid to host and
have adequate
facilities and
accommodations for
teams and fans.
