INDIANAPOLIS,
Ind. – The
University of West
Alabama baseball
team gained a spot
in this week’s
edition of the NCAA
Division II Baseball
South Region poll.
UWA moved into
second in the
rankings after
entering the top 10
list at No. 3 in the
initial listing,
announced by the
NCAA Baseball
committee last week.
The Tigers have
tabulated a 24-10
mark in the region
after picking up
three region wins
last week. UWA
entered Wednesday’s
mid-week
doubleheader with
Stillman College
with a 32-11 overall
worksheet. The Red
and White close out
the Gulf South
Conference season
this weekend,
hosting West
Georgia. The
season-ending series
begins on Saturday,
April 25. First
pitch is set for 4
p.m.
The Muleriders of
Southern Arkansas
maintained their
grip on the top spot
in the poll with an
overall mark of
41-7. SAU, riding a
20-game win streak,
is also the
top-ranked team in
both the Collegiate
Baseball Newspaper
Poll and in the
PING! rankings. GSC
East foe UAH ranks
sixth in the
listing, followed by
Valdosta State in
the eight hole. GSC
West opponent Delta
State rounds out the
top 10.
Tournament champions
from the GSC,
SSC and Southern
Intercollegiate
Conference comprise
three of the eight
bids to the South
Regional, May 14-17.
The remaining
at-large slots are
awarded to the five
highest-ranked teams
in the region. The
top-rated team is
eligible to host the
four day Tournament,
providing it placed
a bid to host and
have adequate
facilities and
accommodations for
teams and fans.
