LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The 19th-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball team
staved off a rally in the latter innings
of the contest from Lambuth University
on Monday night, to notch a 12-9 win at
Tartt Field. The victory improves the
Tigers to 34-8 overall.
After
Lambuth posted a run in its first at
bat, the Red and White answered with six
in the second inning capped by Rob
Dahlberg’s two-run homerun, which scored
Jeremy Finney. UWA added three more in
the third inning for a 9-1 lead.
The
Tigers plated two more runs in the
fourth inning to extend to an 11-1 mark.
A Nick Wheeler single through the right
side to score Dallas Rogers. A Chris
Ransburgh ground out to the pitcher
scored Todd Rea to conclude the scoring
in the inning, which stood until the
seventh inning.
The
Eagles cut into the lead with two runs
in the seventh before tallying six runs
in the eighth inning to cut the lead to
within two, 11-9. LU strung together
four hits to score its six runs.
UWA
pushed an insurance run across the board
in the eighth, as Tyler Moody scored on
a Jeremy Dorrance sacrifice fly to
center field.
Nine
pitchers took the hill for the Red and
White, as starter Brandon Dill (7-0)
picked up the win. The Columbus,
Miss.-native pitched two innings with
one hits and one run. Brian Burgess
pitched the final inning, as the
Huntsville, Ala.-product earned his
third save of the season.
West
Alabama returns to action on Wednesday,
April 16, as the Tigers host William
Carey. First pitch is scheduled 6:00
p.m.
