LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The
third-ranked University of West Alabama
baseball team took a mid-week series from
Henderson State on Tuesday afternoon at
Tartt Field, downing the Reddies 8-2 in game
one and claiming a 6-5, extra innings win in
game two to improve to 28-5 on the season.

and Tres Avans led the way at the plate for
the Red and White. Wheeler, a Hokes Bluff,
Ala.-native, went four-for-seven with five
RBI and a two runs in the contests,
including the game winning run in the night
cap. Avans, a Trenton-Ga.-product, went
three-for-seven with five RBI and two runs
scored.
Kasey Nafzger
(4-0) picked up his fourth consecutive win,
pitching seven innings in the opening
contest, allowing two runs on two hits with
four strikeouts. Brian Burgess garnered his
first save of the season with innings on the
mound, allowing just two hits. Adam
Patterson (1-1) grabbed the win in the night
cap with one inning on the hill.
Tied 1-1 after
five innings in the opening contest of the
doubleheader, UWA pasted three runs on the
board in the sixth inning to claim a 4-1
lead. HSU (15-19) plated one run in the
seventh before four Tiger runs in the eighth
closed out the scoring in the contest and
grab the victory.
In the second
outing, UWA jumped out to a 5-0 lead,
plating all five runs in the third inning.
The Tigers held the lead until the sixth
inning, when the Reddies added five runs to
tie the game. Neither team grabbed the
advantage in the final at bats of
regulation, forcing the game into extra
innings, where UWA forced the winning run
across in the ninth inning.
West Alabama
returns to action on Wednesday, March 26, as
the Tigers close out the series with
Henderson State. First pitch is scheduled
for 1:00 p.m. The game will be carried on
