MILLINGTON, Tenn. – The 13th-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball was
eliminated from the 2008 Gulf South
Conference Baseball Tournament, as the
Tigers (45-11) dropped a 5-1 decision to #11
Valdosta State on Monday afternoon.
A
three-run, seventh inning for the Blazers
extended their lead to 5-1 over the Red and
White. Blaine Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to
center field, scoring Calem Ray for the
first of the three runs. After a wild pitch
allowed Sho Kahata and Logan Pierce to move
into scoring position, Daniel Muniz singled
up the middle to score Kohata and Pierce.
After VSU
opened the contest with a run in each of its
first two at bats, the Tigers cut the lead
in half in the bottom of the second on a
Chris Ransburgh single to center field that
score Matt Busbee.
Kohata
homered to right center field to get things
going for the Blazers in the first inning,
as Sidney Spell laced a two-out, single up
the middle to score Jon Koenigsfeld.

strikeouts in the loss. Hill pitched six
innings of work, while allowing two runs on
five hits. Kasey Nafzger threw two innings,
allowing three runs on two hits with three
walks. Charley Kelley pitched the final
