LIVINGSTON,
Ala. -- The 10th-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball team returns
to action on Saturday, March 1, as the Tigers
(13-3) host #4 Delta State in a three-game,
weekend series at Tartt Field. First pitch of
the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
UWA, which enters
the contest on a six-game winning streak, looks
to snap a nine-game win streak held by the
Statesmen. The three-game series is the first
three of four games between the two Gulf South
Conference institutions this season, as they
will meet in a mid-week contest on Wednesday,
march 19 at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss.
Rob Dahlberg leads
the way at the plate for the Tigers, batting a
conference leading .536 on the season with 21
RBI, which is third in the GSC. Weekend
starters, Mike Schmitt, Matt Hill and Brandon
Dill, pace the Red and White hurlers. Both Dill
and Hill each have posted 1.00 ERA, which is
tied for fifth in the conference, while Schmitt
leads the GSC in strikeouts with 26.
For the Statesmen,
Chris Clark is the catalyst at the plate with a
.444 batting average this season, which ranks 10th
in the GSC. Levi Bishop paces the DSU pitchers
with a 1-0 record and two saves this season,
while posting a 2.63 ERA.
Following the
weekend series, West Alabama returns to action
on Tuesday, March 4, as the Tigers host the
University of Arkansas at Monticello in a
doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1
p.m.
