Ariz. –
After posting a 3-3
record this week, the University of West
Alabama baseball team took a tumble in the
latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll,
falling to 20th, as released by
the publication on Monday afternoon.
UWA (29-8, 5-4 Gulf
South Conference) opened the week with a
sweep of GSC West Division foe Henderson
State, but suffered a sweep at Valdosta
State over the weekend, the first conference
sweep of the Tigers since April 2005.
Southern Arkansas, a
GSC West Division member, claimed the top
spot this week in the poll, boasting a 29-3
record with 472 points. The Muleriders
climbed from #4 last week to become the new
top team. Sonoma State (29-3) remained in
second with 456 points, as Mount Olive
(36-4) fell from #1 to third with 446
points. Tampa (26-5-1) sits in fourth with
West Chester (26-2) rounding out the top
five.
Other GSC notables are
Delta State holding in 11th,
Valdosta State making its first appearance
in the poll at 15th and Ouachita
Baptist up one spot to 22nd.
#20 West Alabama
returns to action on Wednesday, April 2, as
the Tigers travel to NAIA member Auburn
Montgomery. First pitch at the AUM Baseball
Complex is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
