LIVINGSTON,
Ala. -- Fresh off a six win week, the
University of West Alabama baseball reached a
new plateau, as the Tigers (23-4, 3-0 GSC)
climbed to second in the Collegiate Baseball
Newspaper Poll, as announced by the publication
Monday afternoon. The #2 ranking is the highest
in school history, surpassing the previous
ranking of third, reached two weeks ago.
The top spot
remained the same, as Mount Olive (28-2)
received 472 points, 16 points more than the
Diamond Tigers with 456. Grand Valley State
(13-1) and Sonoma State (21-1) each moved up one
spot in the poll. GVSU climbed to third, earning
450 points with SSU grabbing fourth with 444
points. Gulf South Conference West member,
Southern Arkansas, moved up three spots to round
out the top five. The Muleriders (21-3) claimed
406 points.
Other GSC
notables include Delta State (18-7) falling from
sixth to 10th in the poll. Previous
second-ranked Ouachita Baptist dropped 10 spots,
as the Tigers (23-5) stand in 12th.
North Alabama fell out of the top 30 this week,
but did receive votes along with West Georgia.
West Alabama returns to action
on Wednesday, March 19, as the Tigers face #10
Delta State in a neutral site, region contest at
Trustmark Park in Pearl, Miss. First pitch of
the contest is 6:30 p.m.
