BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. – University of West Alabama outfielder
Tres Avans was named Gulf South Conference East
Division Player of the Week for his efforts this
past week, as announced by the conference office
on Tuesday afternoon.
Avans collects his
second career award leading No. 10 West Alabama
to four wins last week. The senior from Trenton,
Ga. hit .727 including a perfect average in
three of the four contests. In Saturday’s opener
against GSC West foe Arkansas Tech, Avans was
four-for-four with four RBI, a triple, a home
run and two runs scored. The outfielder also
walked and stole a base. In the series’ finale,
Avans was two-for-two with three RBI, a double
and a run scored.
Avans becomes
the third Tiger this season to be honored by the
conference, as Mike Schmitt and Brandon Dill
claimed GSC East Division Pitcher of the Week
laurels this season. Avans was the last Player
of the Week for UWA, as he claimed the accolade
on May 1st last season.
The 10th-ranked
University of West Alabama baseball team returns
to action on Wednesday, February 27, as the
Tigers host Stillman College in a nine inning
contest with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
The game time has been moved from its originally
scheduled time of 2 p.m. The game can be
