Announces 2009 Kick Off Banquet
The University of
West Alabama Athletic Department has set its annual Kick Off
Banquet for Monday, August 17, 2009, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in
the Bell Conference Center on the UWA campus. University of
Alabama Director of Athletics Mal Moore will be the featured
speaker at the event. Tickets are available for $50 and can be
purchased by calling the UWA Athletic Department at 205-652-3784
or 205-652-3652.

Volleyball Trio Named To 2009 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar
Team
Three
rising seniors on the University of West Alabama volleyball team
were named to the 2009 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars Team,
announced by the publication Diverse: Issues in Higher
Education. Ana Gabriela Pedrosa and Jazlyn Wright were
tabbed to the First Team, while Jessica Crook earned Second Team
honors.

Announces Partnership with FOX Sports 104.9-FM
The University of West Alabama Athletic Department
has announced a partnership with Fox Sports 104.9 FM for the
2009-10 athletic year. A 50,000 watt station, Fox Sports
104.9 FM reaches UWA and surrounding areas, including western
Alabama and eastern Mississippi.

Roll Selections
The
University of West Alabama placed four student-athletes on the
Gulf South Conference’s 2009 Spring All-Academic Team, announced
by the league office. UWA recorded 24 selections to the
conference’s 2009 Spring Academic Honor Roll. More

Dahlberg Named Daktronics All-American
The
University of West Alabama’s Rob Dahlberg continues to add
to his accomplishments, as the Tiger baseball standout was
named to the 2009 Daktronics All-American Baseball Third
Team, as announced by the organization. This marks the
second straight season that Dahlberg has appeared on the
organizations All-American Teams, earning Second Team
laurels last season.

Tiger Trio Named to
ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region Team
The
University of West Alabama baseball team placed three on the
American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-South
Region Teams. Rob Dahlberg was selected to the First Team at
first base, while Nick Wheeler and Mike Schmitt were each
tabbed as members of the Second Team.

UWA Baseball to Hold Open
Tryout
The University of
West Alabama baseball team will be holding an open
tryout on Saturday, June 6 at Tartt Field. The
tryout, which begins at 1:00 p.m., is open to all
2009 unsigned high school seniors and unsigned
junior college sophomores. Participants must present
proof of physical in last six months. For more information,

Athletics Announces 2009 Spring Graduates
A combination of 28
current and former student-athletes at the University of West
Alabama earned their degrees from the institution earlier this
month at UWA’s Spring Commencement ceremonies. More
